Immigration Law and Employer Compliance: Paul Parsons to moderate Lorman CLE Course (07/15/2008) PDF Print E-mail

In February 2008, U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced stepped-up efforts against employers of undocumented immigrants, including more criminal prosecutions and higher civil fines. Many companies take a head-in-the-sand approach, thinking their paperwork is in order - or hoping they won't get caught if it's not. Are you willing to 'bet the ranch' on your company's future?

On July 15, 2008, Paul Parsons will moderate and act as a panelist in Immigration Law and Employer Compliance, a continuing legal education seminar offered by Lorman Education Services. The course is designed for attorneys, human resource managers, operations managers, presidents, vice presidents, supervisors, managers, controllers and accountants, and any other professionals who may need to keep abreast of the latest development in employer compliance regulations.

Other panelists include Daniel M. Kowalski (Editor-in-chief of Bender's Immigration Bulletin), Kristin Maria Etter (a board certified criminal defense lawyer and a partner with Sumpter & González, LLP), and Connie Cornell (a founding member of Cornell Smith & Mierl, LLP, an Austin labor law firm representing employers and management).

Seminar highlights include:

  • A review of the key essentials of employment eligibility verification
  • Debunking common myths, misperceptions and urban legends
  • Getting up to speed on the current state of litigation relating to SSA no-match letters
  • Tips on preparing for audits and responding to subpoenas
  • Protecting your company from criminal liabilit

More information on the course, including registration information, can be found on the seminar's brochure, available from lorman Edcuation Services.
